Turkey has condemned the deadly airstrikes which hit a market in the Syrian city of Idlib on June 12. Hurriyet Daily News reported.

"The fact that innocent civilians are slaughtered by taking aim [at them] has no place in humanity. Those who try to allege an excuse to attacks that they carry out on hospitals, mosques, markets and refugee camps, which are clearly in violation of international humanitarian law and constitute a war crime, are mocking the international community," the Foreign Ministry said in a statement.

The ministry added the continuation of such attacks was undermining political resolution and ceasefire efforts, while also pointing to the necessity of preventing such crimes in order to reestablish peace and stability in the country.

Airstrikes killed more than 20 people in Idlib on June 12, according to the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights monitoring group.

The group said whether Syrian or Russian jets had carried out the strikes was unknown as both were operating in the area, as reported by Reuters.
