US resumes normal flights to, from Turkey

The U.S. resumed flights to Turkey on Monday following a restriction on air travel amid a coup attempt, Anadolu reported.

In a brief statement, the Federal Aviation Administration said that all restrictions on flights to and from Turkey had been lifted at 1.45 p.m. (1745GMT).

All commercial and private flights between the U.S. and Turkey were suspended on Saturday after a rogue element of Turkey's military made an unsuccessful attempt to overthrow the government on Friday night.

Turkish Airlines, Turkey's national carrier, confirmed on Monday that the ban had been lifted. The company announced that it will resume normal service to the U.S. on Tuesday with an Istanbul-New York flight departing at 6:45 a.m. local time [0345GMT].
