Trend:

Russia and Turkey will hold negotiations in late July at ministerial level to discuss air traffic and ensuring tourist safety, RIA Novosti quoted Russia’s Deputy Transport Minister Valery Okulov as saying July 20.

Charter flights to Turkey were banned due to the crisis in relations between Russia and Turkey.

The relations between Russia and Turkey deteriorated after the Su-24 bomber incident in 2015.

On June 27, 2016, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan sent a letter of condolences to Russia’s President Vladimir Putin over the death of the Su-24 pilot and expressed regret over the incident.

President Putin signed a decree in late June abolishing the ban on charter flights.

However, after the military coup attempt on July 15 in Turkey, Russians are temporarily prohibited to fly to Turkey.

Despite this, air carriers of both countries continue to transport Russian citizens from Turkey.
