Turkey’s President Recep Tayyip Erdogan will invite his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin to Turkey to watch a football match to be held Aug.31 between the national teams of the two countries, the Milliyet newspaper reported July 28.

Erdogan is expected to send an invitation to Putin in coming days for watching the soccer game together.

Turkey’s president will pay a visit to Russia Aug.9 and will meet with Putin.

The relations between Russia and Turkey deteriorated after the Su-24 bomber incident in 2015.

On June 27, Erdogan sent a letter of condolences to Putin over the death of Russian Su-24 pilot and expressed regret over the incident.

Earlier, Turkish Prime Minister Binali Yildirim, commenting on the improvement of relations between Turkey and Russia, thanked Azerbaijan for its contribution to normalization of the relations.
