The European Union High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Federica Mogherini and Turkish ministers have discussed the arrest of Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP) co-chair Selahattin Demirtas and other members of the party, Mogherini tweeted Nov. 7.
Mogherini said she had a phone conversation with Turkey’s Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu and EU Affairs Minister Omer Celik to discuss the arrest of Selahattin Demirtas and other HDP members.
Earlier, 12 MPs from HDP, including Selahattin Demirtas and Figen Yuksekdag were arrested for failing to answer a court summons linked to a counterterrorism investigation.
HDP members Ferhat Encu, Leyla Birlik, Selma Irmak, Abdullah Zeydan, Idris Baluken, Sirri Sureyya Onder, Ziya Pir, Imam Tascier, Gulser Yildirim and Nursel Aydogan are also in the list of arrestees.
