Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu has canceled his visit to Ukraine scheduled for Dec. 20-21 because of the assassination of the Russian Ambassador to Turkey Andrey Karlov in Ankara, a spokesperson for the Turkish Foreign Ministry, told RIA Novosti Dec. 20.

Karlov died after receiving fatal wound in an armed assault at an art gallery exhibition opening in Ankara late Dec. 19. Three other people were injured in the attack. The killer, Turkish off-duty police officer Mevlut Mert Altintas, has been eliminated. The Russian Foreign Ministry called the incident an act of terrorism.

Cavusoglu was planning to visit Ukraine within the preparation for the meeting of the Turkish-Ukrainian High Level Cooperation Council.

The visit has been postponed to a later date, the spokesperson for the Turkish Foreign Ministry said.
