Unresolved conflicts are a big obstacle to the development of the region, Foreign Minister of Azerbaijan Elmar Mamedyarov said in a speech at the international conference on ethical market economies in the 21st century, Foreign Ministry reported on Sunday.

Unresolved conflicts are a big obstacle to the development of the region, Foreign Minister of Azerbaijan Elmar Mamedyarov said in a speech at the international conference on ethical market economies in the 21st century in Salzburg, Austria, Foreign Ministry reported on Sunday.

"Economic development requires political stability. Unresolved conflicts are a big obstacle for the development of the region," Mamedyarov said.

Mammadyarov touched upon issues of economic conditions in the Black Sea region. He stressed the need for sustained development in the region, and noted that for this it's necessary to be more pragmatic.

Minister of Foreign Affairs told the conference about the economy of Azerbaijan, its economic policies, the contribution that Azerbaijan could make to tackle the problem of energy security of EU countries.

At the conference, Elmar Mamedyarov met with his counterparts from Ukraine, Georgia and Austria, the former Federal Chancellor of Austria Wolfgang Shussel, chairman and CEO of the Austrian company OMV, Wolfgang Ruttenstorfer. They discussed bilateral relations and their prospects and other matters of mutual interest.

The conference was dedicated to building associations for ethical market economies and ensuring qualitative growth in Europe and the Black Sea. The event was held on Aug. 20-22 with the support of the Austrian European and International Affairs Ministry. It was attended by several foreign ministers of European countries, officials, experts and heads of leading research centers worldwide.
