The WB has decided on a new country manager for Azerbaijan and will soon submit his candidacy to the government, the WB Baku Office told Trend on Thursday.

The WB Office noted that candidacy of the new representative of the bank in the country has already been approved by the government.

"We sent a notice to the Government of Azerbaijan and pursuant to the procedures of the bank, if, within 48 hours no information is received that this candidate is not desirable, it is automatically considered approved by the government, and we officially claim it," the office said.

A relevant notification was sent to the government earlier this week, the office said. The bank has so far refused to disclose the name of the new manager prior to submission to the Government.

The term of office of the former WB head in Azerbaijan Joseph Owen ended in late July.

The country manager is usually appointed for three years, but these dates may be extended for a fourth year. Joseph Owen has been the representative of the World Bank in Azerbaijan since summer of 2010. His predecessor, Gregory Jedzejczak held this position for four years.
