Payment card market in Azerbaijan increases by almost 9 percent over the year

The number of payment cards in Azerbaijan decreased by 0.37 percent in July - to 4.808 million units, and increased by 8.56 percent compared to the same period last year, the Central Bank of Azerbaijan (CBA) said.

The number of payment cards in Azerbaijan decreased by 0.37 percent in July - to 4.808 million units, and increased by 8.56 percent compared to the same period last year, the Central Bank of Azerbaijan (CBA) said.

Total turnover on payment cards through ATMs and POS-terminals in July amounted to 811 million manat, and the total number of operations - 5.018 million units.

The number of debit card transactions totaled 4.663 million units worth 722 million manat.

Some 4.217 million transactions amounting to 675 million manat of the total number of debit card transactions was carried through the ATM, 302,000 transactions amounting to 34 million manat - through POS-terminals.

Some 355,000 transactions totaling 89 million manat was carried out through credit cards in July 2012.

Some 127,000 operations worth 39 million manat was carried out through the ATM, 70,000 operations at 17 million manat - through the POS terminals.

As of August 1, 2012, the country had 2,195 ATMs, including 1,225 ATMs in Baku, 970 - in other cities and regions. The total number increased by 193 units, or 9.64 percent for the year.

On August 1, 2012 the number of POS-terminals totaled 36,523 units, of which 33,340 accounts for Baku, and 3183 for other cities and regions.

Their number increased by 25,251 units, or by 3.24 times since July 2011.
