Azerbaijan's postal administration presented a package of proposals for discussion at the 25th Congress of Universal Postal Union (UPU), the Ministry of Communications and Information Technologies reported on Tuesday.

According the ministry, general suggestions on development and regulation of the postal field as well as on development of the service have been included to the package.
The UPS World Congress started on September 25 in Doha (Qatar) and will continue till October 15.

The Congress is held four times a year, the last being held in 2004 in Budapest and in 2008 in Nairobi. 192 UPU member states are represented at the 25th Congress. An exhibition of postal technologies 'POST-EXPO' and the philatelic exhibition 'EFIRO' are to be held during the congress.

The Administrative Council elections and elections to the UPU Council on Postal Operations are also going to be held within the event. Azerbaijan has been elected as the member of the Administrative Council twice in a row. In this regard, the country wasn't put for nomination. However, Azerbaijan was nominated to the member of the Council on Postal Operations.

The major document to be used for UPU's activity, the World Postal Strategy will be adopted at the Congress. Realisation of its articles will contribute to the fulfilment of UPU's general purpose, the establishment of world postal space with consideration of consumer interests in all countries.
