Number of phishing attacks reduces in Azerbaijan in 2013

In December 2013 the number of phishing incidents in AzNET's segment dropped by 37.4 per cent compared to November 2013, a report by the Netcraft research firm published on its website on Jan.20 said.

According to the report, if in November 2013 one phishing attack productive for scammers accounted for 1389 sites in the .az domain in Azerbaijan, in December this figure reduced to 869.
As compared with January 2013, the number of phishing attacks in AzNET's segment in December last year decreased by 43.69 percent.

The analysis is based on the Netcraft Toolbar programme, which is a plug-in for Mozilla Firefox and Internet Explorer browsers. The programme notifies users of a potentially dangerous Internet resources and prevention of a phishing attack.

Netcraft Toolbar is currently installed on 4346 personal computers in Azerbaijan.

Phishing attacks are carried out through mass e-mails under the names of popular brands. The letter often contains a direct link to the brand's false website, visually not different from the original one. Once on that site, a user can report valuable information to scammers creating access to his accounts and bank accounts.
