President:     Azerbaijan  ’s Energy Economy Will be at Highest Level in 2007-2008

Azerbaijan , Baku / corr. Trend A.Ismaylova/ The President of Azerbaijan, Ilham Aliyev, voiced his hope at the opening ceremony of Baku Module Electric Power Station on 22 February 2007 that in 2007 to 2008 the energy economy of Azerbaijan will be at its highest level.

"We have possibilities for this and we allocate the finances," he said. The capacity of the station which was constructed in 2006 equals 104 mVt. The station comprises of 12 aggregates, each with a capacity of 8.7 mVt. The station has been constructed by Azenko Company which holds a staff of 120 people. According to the President of Azerbaijan, main forces should be directed towards restoring and constructing new electricity lines and replacing transformers.

"Unfortunately, at the present time not enough attention has been paid to this matter. The foreign companies which managed the Baku distribution networks are responsible for their poor condition. We need to restore everything once again and this demands major finances which have already been allocated ," Aliyev said.

The President stated that Azerbaijan should not encounter any problems with the energy supply. "Our demand is increasing. New enterprises and factories have opened, the population is increasing and therefore, electricity should be provided everywhere. Indeed progress has been observed within this sphere over the recent period, but we are not totally satisfied. We have a long-term program which has already been confirmed. At the moment the key goal is to realize this program and we will achieve it because our financial condition in improving," the President said.
