Contract on Delivery of Daewoo Busses to Baku Not to Create a Monopoly

Azerbaijan , Baku / Trend , corr . S. Aliyev/ South Korea auto producer, Daewoo will deliver 1,000 buses with a large capacity to an Azerbaijani company, Transgate. The new large capacity buses will be delivered only to one company.

"Other companies may turn to this project as well if they like to," Musa Panakhov, the Deputy Azerbaijan's Transport Minister has said today.

"One company may deliver all the busses. All other companies which are also interested in it may join. If they put forward the corresponding proposal, these companies will be certainly involved in the general contract," said Mr. Panakhov.

That will not create a monopoly, since several companies have put forward their proposals to deliver new busses to Baku .

"If they put forward concrete proposals on the signing, the Ministry will certainly support them," said Mr. Panakhov. According to the expectations of the Ministry, the total need in large-capacity busses is 800 and 2,000 less-capacity ones.

The total cost of the contract signed with Daewoo is more $11 mln. The new buses will completely correspond with Baku City . For these aims, the Ministry put forward proposals to the producer to put some changes into the constructions of the busses.

"The average cost of one carrier will reach $56,000-57,000. The capacity of the bus is 100 passengers with 30 seats," said the Deputy Azerbaijan's Transport Minister.

The forthcoming carriers will first of all be put into use in the centre of the Capital.

"The buses will be used in places and stops full of passengers in large routes and wide streets," said Mr. Panakhov.

The first delivery - 50 buses - is expected to be fulfilled in May, 2007. Other 150 buses will be delivered within the next three months.
