Japan and Azerbaijan Sign Next Grant Agreement

Azerbaijan, Baku /corr. Тrend Ilhamgizi/ A signing ceremony for six projects under the frame of Japan's "Grass roots and humanity security" grant assistance took place on 27 February in the Japanese Embassy, informed Tadohiro Abe, Japan's ambassador to Azerbaijan The Japanese government has granted US $523,614 for the project's realization.

Misir Mardanov, the Minister of Education, said five of the six projects will cover education, four of which envisage the renovation of secondary schools. The project intends to renovate secondary schools in the Shaki, Guba and Imishli districts as well as a kindergarten in Ganja, said the minister. The minister also added the Japanese government has realized 91 such projects in Azerbaijan since the year 2000, most of which concerned education. Underlining that Azerbaijan also places great importance on education and science like Japan, the minister stressed this year 100 mln manats will be spent on construction and repair of educational institutions, and their equipping

Mr Mardanov, Mr Abe and the heads of six NGOs that will realize the project, have signed a document.
