Baku, Azerbaijan, June 1
By Anvar Mammadov - Trend:
The First European Games will help Baku to become a favorite venue for tourists, Alan Yarrow, the Lord Mayor of the City of London Corporation, told Trend June 1 at a finance forum held by Pasha Bank and Deloitte in Baku.
Yarrow said that upon his arrival in Baku, he was surprised, adding that he liked the city very much.
He noted that Baku has changed much over the past 20 years.
Lord Mayor Yarrow further said the atmosphere in Baku is incredible, and he liked very much Baku's panorama.
As Yarrow said, to understand what the European Games would bring to Azerbaijan, and in general to Baku, it is sufficient to see what the 2012 Olympic Games gave London.
He said London revived again as a major business center and has become a favorite destination for tourists.
Yarrow believes that the same thing is waiting Baku as well.
Baku 2015 is the first-ever European Games, an exciting and innovative multi-sport event for the continent that will take place on June 12-28, 2015.
There will be a total of 20 sports at Baku 2015: 16 Olympic sports and four non-Olympic sports. More than 6,000 athletes from across Europe will be representing their nations over 17 days of competition.
Baku was awarded the games by the European Olympic Committees (EOC) in December 2012.
