Putin expects high results from Russian athletes in European Games
Baku, Azerbaijan, June 2
The program of the First European Games to be held in Baku includes 31 competitions and 11 of them are qualifying competitions for Brazilian Olympic and Paralympic Games, Russian President Vladimir Putin said.
"Readiness of our athletes should already be at a high level," said the president, RIA Novosti reported.
He made the remarks during the meeting of the Council on Physical Fitness and Sports.
The Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro will be held on Aug.5-21, 2016.
Baku 2015 is the first-ever European Games, an exciting and innovative multi-sport event for the continent that will take place on June 12-28, 2015.
There will be a total of 20 sports at Baku 2015: 16 Olympic sports and four non-Olympic sports. More than 6,000 athletes from across Europe will be representing their nations over 17 days of competition.
Baku was awarded the games by the European Olympic Committees (EOC) in December 2012.
