Tomorrow the entire world will once again witness the prowess and development of the birthplace of the First European Games, Novruz Mammadov, deputy head of the Azerbaijani presidential administration, chief of the administration's foreign relations department tweeted June 11.
This event is historical both for sports in Azerbaijan and around the world, he wrote.
Mammadov added that European diplomats are amazed by high-level organization of such a prominent event in short period of time. This event will contribute to closer familiarization and rapprochement of other nations with Azerbaijan, Mammadov wrote.
"I am convinced that by their successful performance, our athletes will prove that Azerbaijan is a true sports nation," the top official tweeted. "I wish good luck to all the participating athletes here!"
Baku 2015 is the first ever European Games, an exciting and innovative multi-sport event for the continent which will take place on June 12-28, 2015.
There will be a total of 20 sports at Baku 2015: 16 Olympic sports and four non-Olympic sports. More than 6,000 athletes from across Europe will be representing their nations over 17 days of competition.
Baku was awarded the games by the European Olympic Committees (EOC) in December 2012.
