The Baku European Games Organizing Committee doesn't need to pay attention to criticism and different discord, the president of Russian Olympic Committee Alexander Zhukov told reporters June 12.

He said that different forces begin to pay attention to all sorts of petty, unnecessary, insignificant details before each major sporting event.

He said that the same situation happened before and during the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi and he is sure that the same will be in Baku. "Therefore, it is not necessary to pay attention to various political conflicts and any discords before the Games - everything will be fine," said Zhukov.

Baku 2015 is the first-ever European Games, an exciting and innovative multi-sport event for the continent that began June 12 and will last until June 28, 2015.

There will be a total of 20 sports at Baku 2015: 16 Olympic sports and four non-Olympic sports. More than 6,000 athletes from across Europe will be representing their nations over 17 days of competition.

Baku was awarded the games by the European Olympic Committees (EOC) in December 2012.
