Turkey may host the second European Games, the vice-president of the Turkish National Olympic Committee, Hasan Arat said, the Anadolu Agency reported June 16.

"If Turkey nominates its candidacy to host the second European Games, we believe the European Olympic Committees will positively respond to this," said Arat.

He added that not only Istanbul, but also Mersin and Antalya have all the necessary conditions for hosting the Games.

"The final decision on the matter will be taken by politicians," Arat added.

He also highlighted the excellent organization of the first European Games in Baku, Azerbaijan, expressing confidence that over the years the importance of the European Games will increase even more.

The Azerbaijani capital of Baku is hosting the first-ever European Games.

The European Games that kicked off in Baku June 12, will last till June 28.

There is a total of 20 sports at Baku 2015: 16 Olympic sports and four non-Olympic sports.

More than 6,000 athletes from across Europe will be representing their nations over 17 days of competition.

Baku was awarded the games by the European Olympic Committees (EOC) in December 2012.
