Canadian newspaper The Globe and Mail has compiled a photo gallery of athletes participating at the First European Games in Baku.
The inaugural European Games kicked off June 12 on the shores of the Caspian Sea with an extravagant opening ceremony, which included an appearance from Lady Gaga, said the article on the newspaper's website.
"Athletes from every corner of Europe have arrived in Baku, Azerbaijan determined to become the first European Games champion. The Games, which feature approximately 6,000 athletes from 50 countries, ends on June 28," the article said.
The European Games that kicked off in Baku June 12, will last till June 28. There is a total of 20 sports at Baku 2015: 16 Olympic sports and four non-Olympic sports.
More than 6,000 athletes from across Europe came to Baku to represent their nations over 17 days of competition. Baku was awarded the games by the European Olympic Committees (EOC) in December 2012.
