The history of world sports is being written by the example of the first European Games in Baku.

French badminton athletes Gaetan Mittelhessen and Audrey Fontaine advanced to the finals in the mixed doubles competitions, the participants of the first European Games in Baku told Trend June 28.

He said that they are very pleased with organizing of the first European Games.

"The European Games are the prestigious competitions, being held for the first time in history," the athletes said. "The history of world sports is being created in Baku. All athletes, who will win medals here, will go down in history. We are very pleased that we have also been able to do this. We will sure to compete for gold in the final."

The European Games kicked off in Baku June 12 and will last till June 28. There is a total of 20 sports at Baku 2015: 16 Olympic sports and four non-Olympic sports.

More than 6,000 athletes from across Europe came to Baku to represent their nations over 17 days of competition. Baku was awarded the games by the European Olympic Committees (EOC) in December 2012.
