Foreign trade surplus increases over 10% in Azerbaijan

The Azerbaijani State Customs Committee announced a decrease in the volume of foreign trade operations by 9.19 percent in January-August 2014 compared to the same period of last year, the committee said Sept. 15.

Azerbaijan's foreign trade partners for this period numbered 139 countries.

The total trade turnover of Azerbaijan exceeded $20.96 billion, according to the report.
Black ink worth over $9.737 billion was formed in foreign trade operations.

Foreign trade surplus was $8.822 billion in the same period of last year, while $1.373 billion as of August 2014.

About 5,036 legal and physical entities were involved in foreign economic activities during this period, 3,247 being legal entities and 1,789 physical entities, according to the report.

Export operations reached $15.35 billion in January-August which is 3.78 percent less compared to the same period of 2013.

The public sector share in export operations was estimated at $14.476 billion, the private sector share - $749.7 million and physical entities' share- $124.518 million.

Imports exceeded $5.61 billion in January-August which is 21.29 percent less compared to the same period of 2013.

The public sector share in import operations was estimated at $1.377 billion, private sector share- $4.01 billion and physical entities share - $224.4 million.

About 1,792 kinds of goods were exported from and 5,579 imported to Azerbaijan in January-August.
