Azerbaijani entrepreneurs to discuss investment opportunities in Tajikistan

The third meeting of the Azerbaijani-Tajik intergovernmental commission on trade and economic cooperation starts in Dushanbe, the Azerbaijani Ministry of Economy and Industry told Trend Oct. 15.

The International Economic Forum will be also held in Dushanbe on October 15-16. Azerbaijani entrepreneurs will attend it. An Azerbaijani delegation headed by Minister of Economy and Industry Shahin Mustafayev is in Dushanbe.

The possibility of attracting investments in Tajikistan will be discussed during the forum.

There is no information about mutual investment. Although making Azerbaijani investments - both public and private to create new jobs in Tajikistan was previously discussed.

An intergovernmental commission on trade and economic cooperation has been operating since 2008. It coordinates the implementation of economic relations and works out the proposals for further cooperation. Previously, the purchase of lubricants from Azerbaijan was discussed. But a certain agreement has not been reached.

The co-chairmen of the commission are Azerbaijani Minister of Economy and Industry Shahin Mustafayev and Tajik Minister of Economic Development and Trade Sharif Rahimzoda.

According to the Azerbaijani State Customs Committee, the trade turnover between Azerbaijan and Tajikistan amounted to $2.283 million in January-September 2014, which is twice less compared to the same period of last year. In this case, around $2.095 million accounted for the export of products from Azerbaijan.

The official exchange rate is 0.7843 AZN/USD Oct. 15.
