Economic, trade and humanitarian relations between Azerbaijan and Iran are developing rapidly and their further expansion is of great importance, said Iran's President Hassan Rouhani, according to Azerbaijani Economy and Industry Ministry.

Rouhani made the remarks at a meeting with Azerbaijan's official delegation led by the country's economy and industry minister, Shahin Mustafayev, said the ministry August 5.

"The expansion of relations with Azerbaijan is very important for Iran, there is a very good potential for this," said the Iranian president. "We would like to develop relations between our countries in the areas of transport, energy and investment."

Minister Mustafayev, in turn, said Azerbaijan welcomes the agreements on Iran's nuclear program, and noted the importance of mutual visits by the presidents of Azerbaijan and Iran in 2014 for the expansion of the two countries' relations.

"The signing of the agreement on Iran's nuclear program will help develop peace, security and cooperation, both at regional and international levels," the minister said.

He also stressed that the two countries have great opportunities for development of relations in the oil, chemical, energy, agrarian and other areas.

During the visit, the delegation led by Minister Mustafayev also met with a number of other senior officials of Iran. These meetings discussed potential areas of cooperation between Azerbaijan and Iran, and the issues of creating working groups on mutual investment and on the 'North-South' project.
