Gas transportation via South Caucasus Pipeline increases

Some 4.2 billion cubic meters of gas was transported via South Caucasus Pipeline (Baku -Tbilisi - Erzurum) in January-July, 2015, compared to 3.6 billion cubic meters in the same period of 2014, the State Statistics Committee of Azerbaijan told Trend on Aug.17.

In January-July 2015, in total 13 billion cubic meters of gas was transported via main gas pipelines of the country, compared to 12.7 billion cubic meters of gas transported for the same period of 2014.

The length of the Baku-Tbilisi-Erzurum (South Caucasus gas pipeline) is over 700 km. The gas produced from the Shah Deniz field in the Azerbaijani sector of the Caspian Sea is transported via the pipeline. The gas is supplied to Georgia and Turkey. Azerbaijan also is a buyer of gas.

In January-July 2015, the Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan (BTC) pipeline transported 20.8 million metric tons of oil, which is 0.5 percent less than in the same period of 2014.

"In January-July the Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan pipeline accounted for 75.9 percent of all the oil transported via main pipelines of the country," the State Committee said.

During the reported period, in total 27.5 million metric tons of oil was transported via main oil pipelines of the country, which is 0.4 percent less than in Jan.-July 2014.

The total length of BТС is 1,768 kilometers including a 443 kilometer section running via Azerbaijan, a 249 kilometer section via Georgia and 1,076 kilometers via Turkey. Construction of the pipeline began in April 2003 and it was filled with oil on May 18, 2005.

BTC Co. shareholders include BP (30.1per cent); AzBTC (25 per cent); Chevron (8.90 per cent); Statoil Hydro (8.71 per cent); ТРАО (6.53 per cent); Eni (5 per cent); Total (5 per cent); Itochu (3.40 per cent); Inpex (2.50 per cent); ConocoPhillips (2.50 per cent) and ONGC (2.36 per cent).
