Baku, Azerbaijan, Aug. 27

By Huseyn Veliyev - Trend:

The issue of laying the Caspian segment of the Trans-Eurasian Information Super Highway (TASIM) will be resolved soon, Minister of Communications and High Technologies of Azerbaijan Ali Abbasov told reporters August 27.

He said that the Caspian segment is a part of the TASIM project, negotiations on the construction of which are underway with both Kazakhstan and Turkmenistan.

"Given that fact the United Nations supports TASIM, the project involves the political structures as well," said Abbasov. "I believe that the issue of laying the Caspian segment of the cable main line will be solved in the near future."

At present, the TASIM project includes such countries as Russia (Rostelecom), Kazakhstan (KazTransCom), Turkey (TurkTelecom), and China (China Telecom). Azerbaijan is represented by AzInTelecom (earlier it was represented by the Center for International Relations and Calculations of the Ministry of Communications and High Technologies).

TASIM project aims to reduce poverty, speed up economic growth, and can also play a leading role in the development of the region. Its implementation will eliminate the "information gap" between the countries of the West Europe and Pacific Basin.
