A new wind farm Yeni Yashma in Khizi district of Azerbaijan is planned to be commissioned before late 2015, deputy chairman of the State Agency for Alternative and Renewable Energy Sources of Azerbaijan Jamil Malikov told Trend Oct.27.

He said that most part of work on the preparation of commissioning the power plant has already been done.

"To date, 17 of the 20 turbines of the power plant are ready for the launch, they have been tested, they were partially working, and now suspended in order to simultaneously launch the entire plant," Malikov said. "We expect parts for another three turbines to arrive from Germany, and they will be delivered in the near future."

He went on to add that according to the plan, the plant will be commissioned and connected to the grid until late 2015.

The production capacity of Yeni Yashma wind farm is 50 megawatt. It is located in Azerbaijan's Khizi district.

It is planned to construct up to 100 facilities for generating alternative electricity in Azerbaijan within 5 years, according to the preliminary studies.

The volume of investments made in the development of the alternative energy sphere in Azerbaijan reached 63.6 million Azerbaijani manats in 2014. Of this volume, 34.9 million manats accounted for the development of the solar energy sphere and 28.7 million manats - wind power. In total, around 800 million manats have been invested in this sphere in Azerbaijan since 2000.

Azerbaijani State Agency for Alternative and Renewable Energy Sources was created by the decree of the head of state Feb.1, 2013.
