Azerbaijan increases cargo, passenger transportation

Around 203.7 million tons of cargo were transported by Azerbaijan's transport sector in January-November 2015 or 0.5 percent more than in the same period of 2014, the Azerbaijani State Statistics Committee's report as of January-November 2015 said.

The volume of non-oil cargo transportation increased by 1.7 percent in January-November and hit 147.6 million tons, according to the committee.

Around 80.2 percent of the total volume of cargo transported during this period accounted for the private sector.

Some 61.9 percent of the total volume of cargo was transported by vehicles, 27.4 percent by pipelines, 7.7 percent by trains, 3 percent by ships.

Passenger vehicles in January-November transported 1.713,1 billion people which is 3.5 percent more than in the same period of 2014. Most passengers were transported by vehicles (88 percent) and metro (11.8 percent).

Some 15.7 million tons of cargo were transported by railway in January-November compared to 19.8 million tons in the same period of 2014.

On average, the number of loaded carriages made up 405 and unloaded - 447. Average daily load of carriages in the northern direction is 16,500 tons and in western direction 4,700 tons and southern direction - 2,000 tons.

Ships transported 6.2 million tons of cargo during this period compared to 9 million tons in the same period of 2014. The entire volume of transported cargo fell to international operations. The volume of cargo handled at Azerbaijani ports during this period amounted to 7.9 million metric tons.

Vehicles transported 125.9 million tons of cargo, which is 7 percent more than in the same period of 2014.

The volume of passenger transportation hit 1.507,7 billion people (3.6 percent growth compared to the same period of 2014). Some 96.1 percent of passengers were transported by buses and 3.9 percent - by cars.

Some 202 million people were transported by the subway, which is 3.5 percent more compared to the same period of 2014.

Some 1.7 million passengers were transported by planes, which is 2.2 percent more than in 2014. Around 0.5 percent of transportation by this type of transport fell to the private sector.
