Azerbaijan Railways CJSC has raised the price of rail tickets to international destinations, head of the press service of the CJSC Nadir Azmammadov told Trend Dec.23.
The prices have changed due to the second wave of devaluation of the Azerbaijani manat.
Since manat currently has a floating rate, the ticket prices since devaluation, have increased in average by 47-50 percent.
The Central Bank of Azerbaijan switched to the floating rate of the national currency (manat) from Dec.21, 2015. As a result, the exchange rate of the US dollar and euro to manat rose by 47.6 percent and 47.9 percent and stood at 1.55 manats and 1.685 manats, respectively on the mentioned day.
"Tickets on the territory of Azerbaijan are sold in manats, however the tariff currency during the calculation of the railway travel cost between Russia, CIS and Baltic countries is the Swiss franc," Azmammadov said. "Depending on how the Swiss franc changes, prices for rail tickets automatically change as well."
Trains run from Baku to international destinations in Tbilisi, Moscow, Kharkov, Tyumen and Rostov.

The official exchange rate for December 23 is 1.5523 AZN/USD.
New prices for tickets in the direction of Baku-Rostov and Baku-Tyumen are still unknown.
