Cargo transportation through Azerbaijani segment of TRACECA decreases

About 7.83 million tons of cargo was transported via the Eurasian transport corridor (TRACECA, Europe-Caucasus-Asia) through Azerbaijan’s territory in January-February 2016, which is 13.8 percent less than the same period of 2015.

About 7.83 million tons of cargo was transported via the Eurasian transport corridor (TRACECA, Europe-Caucasus-Asia) through Azerbaijan's territory in January-February 2016, which is 13.8 percent less than the same period of 2015, said a message issued by the country's State Statistics Committee.

Some 64.4 percent of the total volume of the transported cargos accounted for motor traffic, 26.4 percent - for railway, 9.2 percent - for maritime transport, according to the message.

Meanwhile, 54.9 million passengers were carried via the corridor through Azerbaijan's territory in January-February 2016, which is by 2.2 percent more than in January-February 2015, said the message.

TRACECA is an international cooperation program in the sphere of transport among the EU and partner-countries in Eastern Europe, South Caucasus and Central Asia. The organization has a permanent secretariat in Baku.

TRACECA member-states are Azerbaijan, Bulgaria, Georgia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Armenia, Moldova, Romania, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Turkey, Ukraine and Iran.
