Oil transportation via BTC increases

Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan (BTC) oil pipeline transported 11.72 million tons of oil in January-April 2016, as compared to 12 million tons in the same period of 2015, Azerbaijani State Statistics Committee's (SSC) report said.

Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan oil pipeline transported 78.6 percent of all oil transported by country's main oil pipelines in January-April 2016, said the report.

The country's main oil pipelines transported 14.91 million tons of oil during the same period, according to the SSC.

The total length of the BTC pipeline is 1768 kilometers of which 443 goes through Azerbaijan, 249 kilometers through Georgia and 1076 through Turkey.

Construction of the pipeline started in April 2003 and began flowing with oil on May 18, 2005.

Stockholders of BTC Co established on August 1, 2002, are BP (30.1 percent), AzBTC (25 percent), Chevron (8.9 percent), Statoil (8.71 percent), ТРАО (6.53 percent), Eni (5 percent), Total (5 percent), Itochu (3.4 percent), Inpex (2.5 percent), ConocoPhillips (2.5 percent) and ONGC (2.36 percent).

The South Caucasus gas pipeline (Baku-Tbilisi-Erzurum) transported 2.52 billion cubic meters (bcm) of gas in January-April 2016 compared to 2.4 bcm, transported in the same period of 2015, the report said.

The country's main gas pipelines transported 7.33 bcm of gas in January-April 2016 compared to 8.1 bcm transported in the same period of 2015.

The length of the Baku-Tbilisi-Erzurum gas pipeline exceeds 700 kilometers. The gas produced from the Shah Deniz gas and condensate field in the Azerbaijani sector of the Caspian Sea is transported via this pipeline. Gas is delivered to Georgia and Turkey.
