By Maksim Tsurkov - Trend:

The catalytic cracking capacities of the Heydar Aliyev Baku Oil Refinery of the Azerbaijani state oil company SOCAR will be increased 47 percent as part of the refinery's modernization, a source in SOCAR told Trend.

The source added that the catalytic cracking makes a deeper processing of oil possible.

"It is planned that construction of a new catalytic cracking unit will make it possible to increase the annual capacity by nearly 50 percent - from 1.7 million to 2.5 million tons of raw material a year," the source said.

"Production of gasoline via the method of catalytic cracking is projected to grow by nearly one million tons per year," the source added. "Construction of the new unit will make it possible to increase production of AI-92 gasoline by over 8 percent and start the production of AI-95 gasoline (meeting Euro 5 standard)."

Modernization of the Heydar Aliyev Baku Oil Refinery will be completed by late 2020.

After the completion of the reconstruction, the processing capacity of the refinery will increase from 6 million to 7.5 million tons of oil per year.
