Baku Higher Oil School (BHOS) hosted Cleantech Ideation Bootcamp, an innovation workshop program designed and organized by Social Innovation Lab (Sil.) with partnership and sponsorship support from UNDP office in Azerbaijan and EY company. The event, which was held in the BHOS Senate Hall, was attended by the students from the Higher School and other national universities.
According to the Sil. co-founder Jasur Hasanov, Cleantech Ideation Bootcamp is a two-day coaching, training and hands-on workshop program that teaches aspiring entrepreneurs and innovators how to build a venture around one of the world’s most alarming issues – climate change. On December 22-23, four trainers, six mentors and nearly forty young entrepreneurs spent two full days together working on finding innovative solutions to tackle climate change through entrepreneurship, using the most essential tools, advanced techniques and modern methodologies.
On the first day, the startup teams went through a series of training and hands-on workshops under the guidance of program coaches, co-founders of Sil. Jasur Hasanov and Leyla Taghizade and experienced entrepreneurs Rashid Aliyev and Orkhan Ahmadov. Then the program participants worked on their own projects using knowledge and skills they gained. On the next day, they presented the projects to the Jury consisting of innovation and industry experts.
The Cleantech Ideation Bootcamp resulted in the development of eight new startup business projects addressing climate change issues. Out of them, two projects entitled “EcoSol” and “Coloroll” were recognized by the Jury as the best. The former offers intelligent and more effective waste management, and the latter implies design of a wall painting robot that reduces amount of toxic chemicals in the painting process through optimizing the process.
The first and second prize winning startups won direct access to ClimateLaunchpad Azerbaijan 2019, the national stage of the world’s largest cleantech program. BHOS Rector Elmar Gasimov who attended the awarding ceremony congratulated the winning teams and presented them certificates.
