Azerbaijan, Belarus, Georgia, Moldova and Ukraine share experience in the field of ICT innovations as part of the EU program “Harmonization of the Digital Markets (HDM) in the Eastern Partnership”, Tofig Babayev, Director of Azerbaijan’s Regional Information Technologies Academy (RITA), coordinator of the HDM program for Azerbaijan, told Trend on May 31.

As part of the program, works are carried in the field of telecommunications, e-healthcare, ICT innovations and other related areas, he said.

In his words, within the EU Eastern Partnership program, a HDM initiative is being implemented in six areas of the program funded by the European Commission, he noted. The program covers the areas of e-commerce, e-customs, digital trust and security, innovative information and communication technologies, e-learning, and e-healthcare, he noted.

A regular workshop on the fourth direction of ICT innovation and startup ecosystems is being held in Baku as part of the HDM initiative. Representatives of the European Commission and Azerbaijan, Belarus, Georgia, Moldova and Ukraine, as well as foreign experts are taking part in the workshop, he added.

Earlier, the European Commission announced a tender to finance all six areas. “The division of EY (Ernst & Young) in the Baltic countries won the tender,” he noted. “We are clarifying our plans in the field of ICT innovations.”

According to the Director of RITA, the discussion of upcoming work has been going on for two days already.

“At the workshop, we also define the mechanism of communications between the six countries participating in the program,” he said. “The project is being implemented under the leadership of the Ministry of Transport, Communications and High Technologies. A representative of the European Commission and specialists in the areas of innovations invited from Spain are taking part in the workshop.”

However, the Eastern Partnership countries Belarus, Georgia, Moldova and Ukraine also have expertise in this area, he added. “European experts recognize their success, and they share their positive experience with us,” Babayev noted.
