BAKU, Azerbaijan, June 1. A delegation of the German Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Action is expected to arrive to discuss energy supply issues with Azerbaijan, German Ambassador to Azerbaijan Wolfgang Manig told Trend.

"Azerbaijan is one of our closest partners and our energy supplier. Due to the situation in Ukraine, the entire international gas and oil markets are in turmoil, but we intend to reduce oil imports from Russia. At the same time, Germany and other members of the EU also want to abandon Russian gas, so we are looking for new sources," said Manig.

According to him, the German Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Action, which is responsible for energy in the country, takes an active part in all discussions of these issues. For this reason, a delegation of the Ministry is expected to arrive in Baku in the near future.

"One of the largest gas traders in the world is the Uniper company. This German company is a close partner of Azerbaijanəs oil company - SOCAR. They have a SOCAR-Uniper joint venture based in Baku," the ambassador stressed.

Furthermore, he stressed that a few weeks ago there were meetings between Uniper and SOCAR companies.

"I think we have a first step with the Southern Gas Corridor, and I am also sure that it will be expanded in connection with these international events," Manig said.
