The results of the Azerbaijani parliamentary election reflects the will of people, Sergey Markov, the person empowered to act for Russian President Vladimir Putin, the chairman of the international cooperation commission of the Russian Public Chamber, political analyst, said at a press-conference in Baku Nov. 2.

"We are assessing the election as honest, fair and expressing the will of people," he said.

"The outcome of the election was expected by everybody," he said. "People supported the New Azerbaijan party because it fully supports the policy pursued by Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev."

Markov said that people supported the New Azerbaijan Party because they fully support the policy pursued by President Aliyev.

"There are a number of reasons of people's support for President Aliyev," he said. "People see the results of the policy conducted by the president for the last 20 years. They understand that the standard of living is much higher in Azerbaijan than, for example, in some other post-Soviet countries."

The Azerbaijani Central Election Commission (CEC) has summed up the preliminary voting results at the parliamentary election held Nov. 1.

The election declared valid. The turnout was 55.7 percent. More than 2.89 million people voted in the election, which is six percent more than at the previous parliamentary election.

The names of the leading candidates in all 125 constituencies have been recently disclosed.
