Azerbaijani Soldier Taken as Prisoner by Armenia -Refuses to Write Letter to His Family

Azerbaijan, Baku, 11 January /corr. Trend K.Zarbaliyeva / Samir Mammadov, the soldier of the National Army of Azerbaijan, who is in captivity in Armenia, refused to receive the phone calls and letters from his family, Samir Mammadov's uncle Vidadi Mammadov reported to Trend on 11 January. On 24 Dec 2005, Samir Mammadov was taken as the prisoner by Armenia.

According to Vidadi Mammadov, the representatives of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) met Samir. They stated that Samir is normal. He denied to contact his family and also refused to take his photographs. It was in March 2007, when Samir wrote the final letter. The Armenian media spread the information that the Azerbaijani captive refuses to return to Azerbaijan.

The Azerbaijani side and Samir's family describes this as a provocation by Armenia.
