Results of Fire Set to Azerbaijani Occupied Territories by Armenians Divulged

Babayvev/ The environment of Agdam and Fuzuli regions of Azerbaijan suffered severe damages worth AZN39,208 as a result of the fires set to the occupied lands of Azerbaijan by Armenians for the last couple of days. On 27 May, the Armenians set to fire Soltanli, Namirli, Novruzlu and Sarijali villages of Agdam, which covered 20 hector of the territories, the press service of the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources of Azerbaijan said to Trend on 3 June.
The conflict between the two countries of the South Caucasus began in 1988 due to Armenian territorial claims against Azerbaijan. Azerbaijan lost the Nagorno-Karabakh, except of Shusha and Khojali, in December 1991. In 1992-93, Armenian Armed Forces occupied Shusha, Khojali and Nagorno-Karabakh's seven surrounding regions. In 1994, Azerbaijan and Armenia signed a ceasefire agreement at which time the active hostilities ended. The Co-Chairs of the OSCE Minsk Group ( Russia, France, and the US) are currently holding peaceful, but fruitless negotiations.
For peaceful settlement of the Nagorb-Karabakh conflict in 1992, about 10 OSCE countries established a Minsk Group. Since 1997, the Minks Group includes co-chairmen from three countries - USA, Russia, and France.
According to the press service of the Ministry, the study conducted by the experts of the Agdam department of the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources, revealed that the fire in the upper fertile layer of the land inflicted damage to environment worth AZN220,000, AZN2,200 - to growth and AZN1,084 to atmosphere. In total, environment of Agdam region received damage of AZN25,284.
The upper fertile layer of the land was completely burned, large volume of poisonous gases was emitted into the air and many animals got burned during the fires set by the Armenians, which spread to 120ha area in Ashagi Saidahmadli, Gorgan and Horadiz villages of Fuzuli region. According to the estimates of the specialists, damage worth AZN13,200 were inflicted to environment and AZN318 to atmosphere as a result of the fire in the pastures and upper fertile layer of the land. In general, damages worth AZN13,518 were inflicted to the Fuzuli region.
