Azerbaijan, Baku, Sept. 25 / Trend , A.Huseynbala/
Lithuania supports territorial integrity of Azerbaijan and stands for the solution of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict under this principle, Vice Speaker of the Lithuanian Seym, Ceslovas Stankevicius told journalists in Baku on Sept. 25.
The conflict between the two South Caucasus countries began in 1988 when Armenia made territorial claims against Azerbaijan. Armenian armed forces have occupied 20 percent of Azerbaijan since 1992, including the Nagorno-Karabakh region and 7 surrounding districts. Azerbaijan and Armenia signed a ceasefire agreement in 1994. The co-chairs of the OSCE Minsk Group - Russia, France, and the U.S. - are currently holding the peace negotiations.
The Nagorno-Karabakh conflict is too difficult conflict and it should be solved within the international principles, Stankevicius said.
The Vice Speaker of the Lithuanian Parliament arrived in Azerbaijan on Sept. 24. Stankevicius will hold meetings at the Azerbaijani Parliament during a four-day visit.
