Monitoring along the contact line was held without incident this week, the Azerbaijani Defense Ministry told Trend.

The monitoring was held near the Kurapatkino village in the Khojavand district in accordance with an OSCE mandate.

From the Azerbaijani side, the monitoring was conducted by field assistants to the Personal Representative of the OSCE Chairman-in-Office Antal Herdich and William Pryor and OSCE's High-Level Planning Group representative Alexander Nepokritix.

From the opposite side, the monitoring was conducted by OSCE Office, Lieutenant-Colonel Imre Palatinus, Field Assistant of the Personal Representative of the OSCE Chairman-in-Office Zhaslan Nurtazinand OSCE High Level Planning Group, Lieutenant-Colonel Fergus Hannon.

The conflict between the two South Caucasus countries began in 1988 when Armenia made territorial claims against Azerbaijan. Armenian armed forces have occupied 20 percent of Azerbaijan since 1992, including the Nagorno-Karabakh region and seven surrounding districts. Azerbaijan and Armenia signed a ceasefire agreement in 1994.

The co-chairs of the OSCE Minsk Group - Russia, France, and the United States - are currently holding the peace negotiations.
