Azerbaijan's election to the UN Security Council speaks for itself and indicates that the country is supported by most of the world, Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry representative Elman Abdullayev told Trend on Thursday commenting on the Armenian Foreign Minister Edward Nalbandian's recent statement.

"I congratulate Mr Nalbandian on Yerevan's intention to continue with a 'balanced and calm policy without any nervous convulsions', the same policy with which the country's leadership leads an economically unsound Armenia, which is in a poor demographic situation, going nowhere," Mr. Abdullayev said.

Azerbaijan is now a strong and independent state, unlike reliant Armenia, which is an outpost of another state, he said.

"Let everyone be sure that the Karabakh conflict will be solved, Azerbaijani territories occupied by Armenia will be liberated and our country's sovereignty will be restored," Mr. Abdullayev said.

Armenia will not suffer serious losses because of Azerbaijan's UNSC membership, Armenian Foreign Minister Edward Nalbandian believes.

"In recent times quite emotional statements have been made on this subject, particularly in the context of the transfer of the Nagorno-Karabakh issue to the UN Security Council format. One should not be emotional and think that Armenia has suffered or will suffer serious losses from it," Mr. Nalbandian said on Thursday during discussions on Armenia's draft state budget for 2012 in the National Assembly.
