Over the past 24 hours, the Armenian armed forces violated ceasefire with Azerbaijan 51 times on various parts of the contact line of Azerbaijani and Armenian troops, the Defense Ministry of Azerbaijan said Nov. 10.

Armenian soldiers, stationed in the village of Chinari of Armenia's Berd district opened fire at the Azerbaijani armed forces' positions in the village of Agbulag of Azerbaijan's Tovuz district.

Armenians also opened fire from positions near the Chilabort and Gizil Oba villages of Tartar district, the Yusifjanli and Merzili villages of Agdam district, the Horadiz, Ashagi Veysalli, Garakhanbayli, Ashagi Abdurrahmanli and Ashagi Seyidahmadli villages of Fizuli district, the Kuropatkino village of Hojavand district and the Mehdili village of Jabrayil district.

The Azerbaijani positions were also fired at from the nameless heights in the Goranboy, Khojavand, Fizuli and Jabrail districts.

The opposing side was silenced with return fire.

The conflict between the two South Caucasus countries began in 1988 when Armenia made territorial claims against Azerbaijan.

As a result of the ensuing war, in 1992 Armenian armed forces occupied 20 percent of Azerbaijan, including the Nagorno-Karabakh region and seven surrounding districts.

The two countries signed a ceasefire agreement in 1994. The co-chairs of the OSCE Minsk Group, Russia, France and the US are currently holding peace negotiations.

Armenia has not yet implemented four UN Security Council resolutions on the liberation of the Nagorno-Karabakh and the surrounding regions.
