Baku, Azerbaijan, Jan.31
Trend:

A subversive group of Armenian armed forces has been eliminated, Azerbaijani Defense Ministry said on Jan.31.

The information spread by Armenian media citing the country's Defense Ministry, according to which the positions and vehicles of Azerbaijani armed forces were allegedly destroyed on Jan.31, is untrue, according to Azerbaijani Defense Ministry.

On the contrary, the sabotage attempt of Armenia on the Armenian-Azerbaijani border in Gazakh district was successfully prevented at about 15:00 (UTC/GMT +4 hours) and six Armenian servicemen attempting to stage sabotage were eliminated, according to Azerbaijani Defense Ministry.

Armenian side, failing to take effective measures in order to avenge for the heavy losses on the frontline, including for the destruction of the drone on Jan.29, spreads groundless information deceiving the Armenian people and soldiers, said the ministry.

Azerbaijani Defense Ministry said that unfortunately, as a result of the violation of the ceasefire by Armenian armed forces once again in the territory of the Khojavend district, a serviceman of Azerbaijani armed forces, soldier Eshgin Allahverdiyev was killed on Jan.31 at 12:55 (UTC/GMT +4 hours).

Azerbaijani Defense Ministry expresses its condolences to the friends and relatives of the martyr.

The conflict between the two South Caucasus countries began in 1988 when Armenia made territorial claims against Azerbaijan. As a result of the ensuing war, in 1992 Armenian armed forces occupied 20 percent of Azerbaijan, including the Nagorno-Karabakh region and seven surrounding districts.

The two countries signed a ceasefire agreement in 1994. The co-chairs of the OSCE Minsk Group, Russia, France and the US are currently holding peace negotiations.

Armenia has not yet implemented the UN Security Council's four resolutions on the liberation of the Nagorno-Karabakh and the surrounding regions.
