Trend:

Azerbaijani armed forces have prevented the sabotage of Armenian armed forces, Azerbaijani Defense Ministry said Dec.4.

In recent days, Armenian armed forces have attempted to expand their subversive activities along the contact line of Azerbaijani and Armenian armies.

Trying to take the advantage of the military and political situation in the region, Armenian armed units attempted to attack Azerbaijani positions on various parts of the contact line, said the Defense Ministry. Azerbaijani armed units have successfully prevented the actions of the opposing side. Armenians retreated, suffering losses. The number of the killed is yet to be determined.

According to Defense Ministry's report, an ensign of Azerbaijani armed forces was injured in the battle with the opposing side, said the Defense Ministry. He received urgent medical attention.

The ministry said that Azerbaijani army fully controls the situation along the contact line.

The conflict between the two South Caucasus countries began in 1988 when Armenia made territorial claims against Azerbaijan. As a result of the ensuing war, in 1992 Armenian armed forces occupied 20 percent of Azerbaijan, including the Nagorno-Karabakh region and seven surrounding districts.

The two countries signed a ceasefire agreement in 1994. The co-chairs of the OSCE Minsk Group, Russia, France and the US are currently holding peace negotiations.

Armenia has not yet implemented the UN Security Council's four resolutions on the liberation of the Nagorno-Karabakh and the surrounding regions.
