Armenia violates ceasefire with Azerbaijan over 100 times in 24 hours

Over the past 24 hours, Armenian armed forces 116 times broke ceasefire on various parts of the contact line between Azerbaijani and Armenian troops, said the Azerbaijani defense ministry told Trend March 3.

Azerbaijani positions located in the nameless heights of the Qazakh district were fired from the nameless heights of Armenia's Ijevan district.

Azerbaijani military was also fired at from positions near the villages of Gulustan of the Goranboy district, Goyarkh, Chayli, Yarimja of the Terter district, Shikhlar, Bash Garvand, Javahirli, Sarijali, Kangarli, Novruzlu, Nemirli, Shuraabad of the Aghdam district, Kuropatkino of the Khojavand district, Horadiz, Garakhanbeyli, Gorgan, Ashagi Seyidahmadli of the Fizuli district and Mehdili village of the Jabrayil district.

Armenian army also violated ceasefire from the positions located on the nameless heights in the Goranboy, Khojavand, Fizuli, Goygol and Jabrayil districts.

Azerbaijani armed forces inflicted 120 strikes on enemy positions.

The conflict between the two South Caucasus countries began in 1988 when Armenia made territorial claims against Azerbaijan. As a result of the ensuing war, in 1992 Armenian armed forces occupied 20 percent of Azerbaijan, including the Nagorno-Karabakh region and seven surrounding districts.

The two countries signed a ceasefire agreement in 1994. The co-chairs of the OSCE Minsk Group, Russia, France and the US are currently holding peace negotiations.

Armenia has not yet implemented the UN Security Council's four resolutions on withdrawal of its armed forces from the Nagorno-Karabakh and the surrounding districts.
