Russia does not avoid the responsibility to ensure the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict's settlement, and moreover it is to the greatest extent involved in this process, RIA Novosti quoted Dmitry Medvedev, Russia's prime minister, as saying Apr. 8.

"Russia's role is obvious as it is a co-chair of the OSCE Minsk Group," Medvedev told reporters during his visit to Baku. "We are the co-chairs. We never avoid the responsibility."

Medvedev added that following the recent incident on the line of contact between the troops of Azerbaijan and Armenia, Russian President Vladimir Putin immediately phoned the Azerbaijani and Armenian counterparts, Ilham Aliyev and Serzh Sargsyan.

"President Putin expressed the country's position," he said. "Putin called on the sides to calm down, sit at the negotiations table again, begin consultations and announce a truce."
