Azerbaijan's Defense Ministry: Armenia resorts to provocative actions

Baku, Azerbaijan, Sept. 25

Trend:

The military-political leadership of Armenia resorts to provocative actions aimed at aggravating the situation on the line of confrontation of troops, the Defense Ministry of Azerbaijan said in a message on Sept.25.

"The information about the conduct of training flights with the involvement of military aviation in the occupied territories of Azerbaijan that was disseminated by the enemy is a vivid proof of this," the message reads.

The Ministry of Defense declares that any enemy aircraft that would attempt to approach the foremost positions of the units of the Azerbaijan Army will be immediately neutralized.

The military-political leadership of Armenia bears entire responsibility for possible losses, said the ministry.

The conflict between the two South Caucasus countries began in 1988 when Armenia made territorial claims against Azerbaijan. As a result of the ensuing war, in 1992 Armenian armed forces occupied 20 percent of Azerbaijan, including the Nagorno-Karabakh region and seven surrounding districts.

The 1994 ceasefire agreement was followed by peace negotiations. Armenia has not yet implemented four UN Security Council resolutions on withdrawal of its armed forces from the Nagorno-Karabakh and the surrounding districts.
