15 persons in Azerbaijan have become victims of mine explosions within first half-year of 2006

Within the first half-year of 2006, 15 persons in Azerbaijan have become the victims of the mine explosions. The statistic was defined was defined in result of investigation held by Azerbaijan Company for Prohibition of Anti-infantry Mine, Trend reports with reference to the same company.

In result of 11 mine explosion facts, one person has perished and 14 persons have received different types of physical injuries. Mainly all facts took place in the districts of Agjabadi, Agdam, Tar-Tar, Akstafa, Gadabay and Fizili and Shagan village of Azizbayov district of Baku city.

During the same period of last year, 23 mine explosion cases took place in result of which 4 persons perished and 19 received injures.

Within the Zovqud project of Azerbaijan National Agency for Mine Action (ANAMA), 3 403 982 m2 was revealed.

The agreement on Zovqud program - mine clearing of territories in Fizuli district was signed in May 2006 between ANAMA and United Nations Development Project. It is intended to clear 1900 ha land within the project. The realization period of the project is 19 months. On July 18, ANAMA will hold monitoring for realization of project.
