Representatives of International Committee of the Red Cross Twice Met with Azerbaijan Soldier in Armenian Captivity

The Deputy Chairman of the Azerbaijan State Committee for Prisoners of War, Hostages and Missing People, Eldar Samadov, informed Trend that the representatives of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) have twice met with the Azerbaijan soldier Samir Mammadov, who is kept in the Armenian captivity.

He said that the ICRC representatives have been interested in the detention place and health of Mammadov. According to the information provided by the working group in ICRC, the Azerbaijani soldier is detained under normal circumstance and there is no problem with his health. In addition, Samadov said that the working group does not know if Mammadov has written a letter to his family or not.

Presently the ICRC and other organizations are holding negotiations with the Armenian side for releasing the Azerbaijani soldier, and we hope that we will achieve it in the near future, Samadov said.

It should be mentioned that the resident of Barda district of Azerbaijan and soldier of the N military unit of Agstafa district, Samir Mammadov has been taken as prisoner by the Armenian side under unknown circumstances on December 24. Despite that several sources speak that he voluntarily went to the Armenian side, the official sources do not confirm this and state that the circumstances under which the Azerbaijan soldier was taken as a prisoner will be clear after his release.
