20 mln m2 Territories of Azerbaijan were de-mined in 2006

De-mining has been carried out in an area of 1 426,634 m2 in Azerbaijan in December 2006. During this period, 7,416 mines and unexploded ammunition (PHS) have been revealed and rendered harmless, Trend reports with reference to the Azerbaijan National Agency for Mina Action (ANAMA).

Twenty-two dogs, 138 workers, 15 PHS operators, 8 first aid doctors and nearly 100 auxiliary employees have been involved in the clean-up programme. During this period, an area of 41,591,131 m2 has been cleaned up in Azerbaijan. Approximately 98,127 mines and PHS has been discovered. During the period of January-December 2006, 2 people have died and 15 people received injuries as a result of 11 mine explosions. During the same period, an area of 20,000,000 m2 in Azerbaijan has been cleaned up.
